At Parkway Window Works, we’ve spent more than two decades helping interior designers across Rochester, the Finger Lakes, and Upstate New York bring their window treatment visions to life. Our trade partners often tell us that the process feels easy, seamless, and even enjoyable — which is exactly what we aim for.

Founder and engineer-turned-fabrication expert, Peggy Morgans, shares insight into what makes a to-the-trade workroom partnership work so well.

Q: What’s the Benefit of Working With a To-The-Trade Window Treatment Workroom?

The short answer? We take the technical off your plate. You bring the design vision, and we handle the logistics, math, and mechanics behind it.

Because of my engineering background, I naturally approach every project with a systems mindset. We’ve built streamlined processes that eliminate the guesswork: everything from detailed quoting and renderings to installation coordination is handled in-house. My goal is for designers to feel confident, supported, and free to focus on creativity instead of troubleshooting.

Q: When Should I Bring a Workroom Into a Window Treatment Project?

As early as possible! The earlier we’re involved, the smoother everything goes. If we can measure before cabinetry, trim, or lighting is finalized, we can flag potential obstructions and save you headaches later.

That said, we’re flexible. Some designers come to us at the concept phase, others when it’s time to specify fabric and hardware. Either way, we’ll meet you where you are in the process and take care of everything from detailed measures to installation.

Q: How Can I Help My Clients Visualize Custom Window Treatments?

Renderings are one of the most powerful tools in our process. We take a digital photo of your client’s window and overlay your selected design, fabric, and treatment style to scale. This helps your client visualize the end result and sign off with confidence.

Designers tell us these renderings have been game changers in presentations. They eliminate guesswork, speed up decision-making, and make it easier for clients to say “yes.”

During the design phase of your project, we provide renderings to help your clients visualize the how the window treatments will look in their space.

Q: Where Can I Bring My Clients to See Window Treatment Options in Person?

Right here at Parkway Window Works. Our Designer Consultation Space in Fairport is a drop-in resource created exclusively for the trade. Designers can bring their clients in to experience full-size product demos, from drapery hardware to automated shades, and browse an extensive library of fabrics, trims, and materials.

We’ve also designed the space with large work tables so you can spread out samples, review renderings, and refine your designs. It’s open Monday through Friday, and no appointment is necessary. It’s truly meant to feel like an extension of your studio — a place to collaborate, discover, and get inspired.

Q: How Do I Offer Motorized Shades and Draperies to My Clients?

Motorization is no longer a luxury feature. It’s quickly becoming an expectation, especially in high-end homes. The good news is, it’s more accessible than ever, and you don’t have to be an expert in automation to offer it. That’s where we come in.

We’ll walk you through all the options, from battery-operated shades to hard-wired systems that integrate with smart home platforms like Lutron or Control4. We’ll also coordinate with your client’s electrician or AV team to make sure everything runs smoothly. And yes, we motorize draperies, too, not just shades.

If your client wants to control window treatments with their phone, schedule them for security while traveling, or use voice commands through Alexa or their smart home system, we’ll help you make it happen.

Q: What If My Project Involves Difficult or Unusual Window Shapes?

Bring it on! Honestly, the more complex the project, the more excited our team gets. From arched windows and tight corners to double-height installations and turreted rooms, we’re known for tackling the tricky stuff.

One recent project involved shaping a faux Roman shade to match the curve of a crown molding. We used a contour gauge to map the curve precisely, and the end result fit like a puzzle piece.

Whether it’s solving for angles, shallow recesses, unusual heights, or integrating motorized systems into tight spaces, we engineer custom solutions that work beautifully and perform flawlessly.
